Advantages and Disadvantages of Accepting the HubPages Thirty Day Challenge
64
The HubPages Challenge has been going around for several years. You know the ones; you challenge yourself to finish a certain number of hubs in 30 days. Sometimes it is 30 hubs in 30 days, but some extreme people, like me, may even try for 100 hubs in 30 days.
You may be wondering if you should join the HubPages Challenge. It does seem like a lot of time and effort, but it seems like the people who are participating are having fun. If you are wondering whether you should join the HubPages challenge, here are some advantages and disadvantages I have found.
Advantages of the HubPages Challenge
The biggest advantage of accepting the HubPages challenge is that you will likely publish more hubs while participating than you would otherwise. It isn't called a challenge for nothing. If you regularly publish 30 hubs in 30 days, there is really no point in calling it a challenge, because you do that anyway, so you probably wouldn't join that challenge. The goal of the HubPages challenge is to push you do a few more hubs than your regular output.
I find that if I try to publish two hubs, I manage to publish one hub easily, and the other one takes great effort. If I try to publish three hubs a day, I manage to publish two hubs easily, and the last one takes great effort. If I try to publish four hubs a day, I manage to publish three hubs easily. I haven't been crazy enough to try to publish five hubs a day, but it is the last week of the challenge, so I may just have to try that. Just like the last ten pounds are the hardest to lose, the last hub is the hardest to write. It's a strange psychology, but the more you challenge yourself, the easier it will be to publish more hubs.
You will learn new things about yourself that maybe you didn't know. You will be forced to go to the hidden recesses of your mind to come up with topics for your hubs, and you may be surprised at some of the topics you find there among the cobwebs.
You will likely get more visitors. Since you have more hubs, readers will have more hubs to choose from, and they will likely find an interesting hub or two to read. Especially if they know you are participating in the challenge, they will likely provide support and encouragement, which feels really good.
With more hubs and more visitors, you are also likely to earn more money. It might not be much more, depending on the topics you write about, but it will yield a few extra cents that you wouldn't have gotten if you didn't participate in the HubPages challenge.
In order to write your 30 hubs in 30 days, you will likely pick some random topics just to get your hubs published. , You may also be surprised at the topics that get you more visitors. You will find out which topics are more popular. This may provide you with ideas for future hubs, particularly if you are interested in getting more visitors and potentially more money.

Disadvantages of the HubPages Challenge
The biggest disadvantage of participating in a HubPages Challenge, whether it is the 30 Hubs in 30 Days Challenge, and particularly if it is the 100 Hubs in 30 Days Challenge, is that you will have to give up something else that takes time in order to participate. It might simply mean less television or other time-wasting occupation. But it might also be something more important, like cleaning or spending time with your family.
If you publish many hubs in a single day, it is probable that your readers will not have the time to read all of them. The hubs you wrote yesterday are no longer "new" because you have published so many since then. This is especially the case if you write on a holiday or a weekend. Having RSS capsules that highlight the latest capsules will help your readers be aware of your new hubs.
You will want to visit all your new found friends who are coming to read your hubs, and learn more about them by reading their hubs. You won't have time for that either, unless you sacrifice even more time.
If you do find time to read some hubs, especially if you are to HubPages, you may find ways to improve your hubs. You may consider going back to revise your old hubs with these new ideas. You probably won't have time for that either. And as you are continuing to add more hubs, there will be a great deal of cleanup to do when you are finished with the challenge.
You may lose some sleep as you get ideas for new hubs in the middle of the night, causing you to get up and write them down before you forget. The best ideas seem to come only at night.
Suggestions
I am guessing that the person who came up with thirty hubs probably wrote one hub every business day, so in December they would have written 22. They probably wanted to add one or more additional hub a week, to come up with thirty. Or maybe they were thinking of writing one hub every calendar day. That is a good challenge for people who write one hub a day. But since not everybody is in the same situation, they would have to come up with their own number that works in their particular instance.
If I had to do it all over again, I would still participate in the HubPages Challenge. Instead of doing 30 Hubs in 30 Days, which really wasn't challenging for me, or the 100 Hubs in 30 Days, which is too challenging, I would come up with my own number. I would look at the calendar and see how much time I have available to participate. I would especially look to see if there were any holidays in the month. I would also give myself some days off. Then I would estimate how many hubs I would be able to write normally. With that number, I would consider adding a one or a few hubs a week, or maybe a little more to really challenge myself. It is hard to say what I would have done twenty-one days ago, but if I had thought it through, I probably would have chosen to do 60 hubs in 30 days. It is a reasonable stretch. And it's about probably what I will be able to accomplish at the end of the challenge.
Participating in the 30 Days Hub Challenge
I have a few more days to go on my challenge, but I highly recommend participating in the 30 day challenge at HubPages. You will get more hubs written and may learn a few things about yourself and writing. Like a marathon, if you prepare yourself, and form a strategy before rushing ahead, you will find that you are much more successful. But even if you participate by rushing ahead and being impulsive, like I did, you will find it to be rewarding and exciting. It is enjoyable and fun too.

Yes, I'm with GoodLady. I also would never be able to do it. Maybe someday --- just not now. I don't have much private time, when I can just do what I like.
Very informative, useful Hub, though.

Admire you. I simply couldn't do it because I am too slow and don't think I have the time all the time to be writing. But hats off to you and WELL DONE.
I once did a Masters (an MA) and it will be the last time I give to just-one-,aspect of my life and I fear the 30 or 100 hubs challenge will bring me back to that state of frenzied, tired mind.
